Kayan Township or Khayan Township (Burmese: ခရမ်း မြို့နယ်, pronounced [kʰəjáɴ mjo̰nɛ̀]) is a township of Yangon Region.[1] It was founded by Dr.Maung Maung, who was part of a Mon royal family that ran away from their palace during a war. The royal family settled down in the area surrounding Khayan Township and gave their new home a Mon name.[2]
