Katja Poensgen (born 23 September 1976 in Mindelheim) is a German motorcycle racer. She started her motorcycle career in 1993 with ADAC Junior Cup. In 1995 she won this championship and also won the Trofeo Tordi in Italy. In 1996 she competed in the German 125cc Championship. The next year she moved to German Supersport Championship. In 1998 she made her debut in a world Championship: she took part in the German Grand Prix of Supersport World Championship riding a Suzuki GSX-R600. She finished the race at the 20th place. In the same year she won the Supermono title. During the 1999 and 2000 seasons she rode in European Superstock 1000 Championship with a Suzuki GSX 750 R, collecting 102 points, two races' fastest laps and a podium place at Misano Adriatico.[1] In 2001 she moved to Grand Prix motorcycle racing. She competed in 250cc. She rode an Aprilia RSV 250 but during the season she changed her bike. Actually she ended the season with a Honda RS250R.[2] In this context she became the first woman to score points in this category. In 2002 she competed in German Superstock 1000. In 2003 she came back to Gran Prix motorcycle racing, without scoring points. Since 2004 she has worked as a TV speaker while she continued to participate in Rallycross and Electric-Motorcycle races.
