Katharina Grosse (born 2 October 1961) is a German artist. As an artist, Grosse's work employs a use of architecture, sculpture and painting. She often uses bright, unmixed sprayed-on acrylic paints to create both large-scale sculptural elements and smaller wall works. Her projects often express complex narratives through the inclusion of everyday objects, psychedelic vistas, and evocative titles. The way in which she builds up layers of color allows the viewer to read the material record of her artistic process.[1]

Life and education

Grosse was born in 1961 in Freiburg/Breisgau, Germany.

She studied at the art academies in Münster and Düsseldorf, taught at the Art Academy Berlin-Weissensee from 2000 to 2010, and has been a professor of painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy since 2010.[2]

Grosse lives and works in Berlin.
