Karoline Frogner

Anne Karoline Frogner (born February 3, 1961) is a Norwegian filmmaker, photographer, writer and lecturer. She is considered one of Norway's foremost documentary filmmakers[1][2] and is a well known stills photographer for the image agency Samfoto. She runs the production company Integritet Film AS and has written several books. Through her films she has proven an evident humanistic point of view, indicated a broad commitment to human rights and decided to promote controversial issues that often affect politically difficult issues. In 1990 she was the initiator for the establishment of a children's art centre in Betlehem.[3] Because of her work she was appointed as a Government scholar in the State budget of Norway of 2014.[4]

Awards

  • 2013: Because of her work she was awarded the Norwegian government grant in 2013,[4]
  • 2004: Tradra was nominated for the Amanda Award in the categories: best documentary and the people's choice award.
  • 1995: For Times Of Darkness she received the Amanda Award for best documentary.
  • Times of Darkness also received the prize for best documentary on the Women's Film Festival in Turin and the Award for best film in the festival Nordic Glory of Jyvaskyla in Finland. The Movie "Time of Darkness" was represented by NRK in Input Mexico.
  • She has also received The Osterø Award for her humanitarian work, Military Deny Peace Prize 1995 from the civilian workers and has been a critic's favorite in 1995. "Whistling not allowed" received a prize in Nordic Film days in Lübeck 1990.
  • The Jewish community planted a tree with Karoline Frogner's name for her work with the film The Time Of Darkness - women's encounter with Nazism.

Exhibitions

  • 2014: The film “Duhozanye. The Widows of Rwanda.” about the gacaca-trials during the aftermath of the genocide in Rwanda, was screened at the Memorium Nuremberg Trials from 10/4-12/5 as part of the exhibition, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.[14]
