Life and career
Fukuhara was born in Los Angeles, California. While attending UCLA, she continued to work on numerous shows on NHK in Japan, most notably those on the Disney Channel as a member of Movie Surfers.[3][4] She was also involved in the a cappella group, Medleys, during her college career. Fukuhara graduated from University of California, Los Angeles in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Theater.[1][2]
In 2016, Fukuhara made her big screen debut as Tatsu Yamashiro / Katana in the superhero film Suicide Squad, which was released in August 2016.[5][6] Although she has prior martial arts experience with a brown striped belt in karate, Fukuhara trained for about two months during pre-production in order to learn how to wield a sword correctly.[7] On early December 2016, Fukuhara announced that she just completed the first week of filming for Stray (alongside Christine Woods, Miyavi, and Ross Partridge).[8] Karen Fukuhara voiced the characters Sewer Queen and Alexis in the pilot for the Cartoon Network series Craig of the Creek.
