Kapsabet High School is a boys' national school located in Kapsabet, Nandi County, Kenya, 40 kilometres from Eldoret town.
History
The school was founded in 1925 as the Government African School (GAS). It is one of the oldest high schools in the country.[1] The school was established to cater for African students at a time when schools were still segragated by the Briton colonialists.
The school has undergone many transformations over the past century and the old school campus where the school stood at first is now used as a primary school, Kapsabet High Primary School .
National Ranking
Kapsabet is ranked as one of the top in the country high schools in Kenya. It consistently ranks top in the national examinations, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). During the 2013 exam the school was ranked fourth nationally. In the 2014 examination it was ranked second nationally.
In the 2015 admission cycle, it received over 60000 applications and accepted about 300 students.
Management
The school's principal is Kipchumba Maiyo and the Board of Governors is chaired by former army General Augustine Cheruiyot.[2]
Boarding
The school has 19 dorms which are further grouped to nine houses. The house basis is used for Inter-house academic contests, games, house parties, meals and many other activities. The school is a state of the art institution full of amazing works of architecture. The new 360-bed dormitory, Koitalel Dorm, a three storey building, is a contribution of the alumni in the school’s development. The dorms have hot showers, ironing and laundry bays, modern cubicles and many other amazing things.
A new 816 bed capacity dorm is being built by the school. The mega-project is a luxurious one costing over 150 million shillings.

With an alumni network of more than 10,000 students, Kapsabet has produced alumni in different fields including top leaders in Kenya. Some of its notable alumni include Kenya's political elite.

- Julius Yego - 2016 Olympics javelin silver medalist; 2015 IAAF javelin world champion[5]

- Henry Kosgey[7]-former Cabinet Minister and Member of Parliament
- Kimaiyo Arap Sego - Lawyer, former Member of Parliament, Tindiret Constituency and former Minister of commerce
- Stephen Sang - 2nd and current Governor of Nandi County, former Senator Nandi County[8]
- Samson Cheragei - Senator Nandi County
- Kipsang Belio - Education Principal Secretary in Kenya
