Kanailal Bhattacharjee (Bengali: কানাইলাল ভট্টাচার্য) (1909–27 July 1931) was a Bengali revolutionary nationalist who fought against British rule over India.
Early life
Kanailal belonged to a very poor family of Majilpur. He was born to Nagendranath Bhattacharya. He joined freedom revolution movement when he was very young. He came in touch of well known revolutionaries like Sunil Chatterjee, Satkari Bandyopadhyay etc. and soon he became a fighter of revolution movement.[1]
Killing R. R. Galik
Kanailal Bhattacharya killed R. R. Galik, the judge of Alipur court, on 27 July 1932.
The judge Galik sentenced Dinesh Gupta and Ramakrishna Biswas, the two great revolutionaris of India, for hanging death as a punishment. He killed that judge by shooting him. But during the fighting, Kanailal was shooted by a guard sergeant. A piece of paper was found in his pocket. It was written that "Get destroyed, get the award for hanging Dinesh Gupta". He took the pseudo name of Bimal Dasgupta. Police was searching Bimal Dasgupta for the murder of District Magistrate Pedi of Midnapur. He tried to save Bimal Dasgupta in exchange for his pseudonym. The police could not retrieve his true identity for a long time. Even during the identification, the noble mother of Kanailal denies his body as her son. Kanailal was a member of the Bengal Volunteers Team.[2][1][3]
Social reflections
In fond of the memory of this patriot the "Alipur Bekar Road" had been renamed into "Biplabi Kanailal Bhattacharya Road". Not only this but a road in Jaynagar Majilpur city been named on him also. Except this a bronje statue had been placed at Dutta Bazar in Majilpur near his ancestor's house.[1]
