Kamadhenu is a 1941 Tamil-language film directed by Nandlal Jaswantlal[1] and featuring Baby Saroja, Vatsala, K. B. Vatsal and G. Pattu Iyer in the main roles.[2]

Plot

It is the story of a rich man's son falling in love with the daughter of a poor man. As a result, the rich man disowns his son. Another person intrudes in the family and takes advantage of the situation. There are many twists and turns in which the lovers undergo severe hardships. However, the rich man finally realises his folly and the families get together.[2]

Production

The film is almost a family venture. K. Subramanyam's brother K. Viswanathan, who was the owner of Chitra Talkies, produced the film while K. Subramanyam wrote the story and dialogues. K. Viswanathan also featured as the hero. His wife Vatsala was the heroine. Their daughter Baby Saroja featured as a child artiste.

K. Subramanyam brought Nandlal Jaswantlal, who was a successful director of Hindi films, to direct this film. This the first and only Tamil film he directed.[2]

Soundtrack

S. Rajeswara Rao and Kalyanaraman scored the music under supervision of Papanasam Brothers - Papanasam Sivan and Papanasam Rajagopala Iyer both of whom also penned the lyrics. (See film song under external links)

Reception

The film fared well at the box office. Film historian Randor Guy said in 2016 that the film is "Remembered for the brilliant direction of Nandlal Jaswantlal and impressive performances of the family trio."
