KUAO (88.1 MHz) is a Contemporary Christian radio station in Ogden, Utah. Owned and operated by Educational Media Foundation (EMF), the station broadcasts EMF's Air1 format.

As KWCR

KUAO began as KWCR, a student radio station owned and operated by Weber State University. All DJs and staff members were students at Weber State, studying various courses throughout the university. Because KWCR was a non-profit/student-run radio station, the format of KWCR changed numerous times in the history of the station, but most recently classified itself as "Indie Rock." In the past, the format has been Hip hop, Popular Top-40, College rock and Alternative. In addition to their standard programming, KWCR offered a variety of specialty shows, including Punk, Ska, Hardcore, Rpm, Post-Rock Instrumental, Country, and political commentary. "The Nerd Show" was one of the most popular radio shows in Weber State University and also on Sundays the station offered an alternative show in Latin Languages (Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Ladino, French, Portuguese, Romanian) called "Domingos Latinos" ["Latin Sundays"].

College Media Journal

KWCR reported charts to the College Media Journal. KWCR was featured on the cover of College Media Journal Magazine issue no. 978 with the quote: "KWCR makes Utah a little less lame".

Leaving the air

Starting October 30, 2015, KWCR notified its listeners via Facebook that it was going online only.[1] The station handed out CDs to its listeners after going digital only.[2]

FCC violations and renewal of license

On June 13, 2017, the Federal Communications Commission adopted a consent decree with Weber State University. It resolved issues related to violations of rules governing public inspection files, Emergency Alert System and station log issues raised during a review of the station's Application for Renewal of License. It agreed to pay a civil penalty of $9,300.[3][4] The application was granted on July 12, 2017 upon tender of the civil penalty payment.[5][6]

Sale of license to Educational Media Foundation

Shortly before agreeing to the consent decree, Weber State University filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to sell the license to Educational Media Foundation for $100,000.[7] The application was granted on July 18, 2017.[8] The sale to EMF was consummated on August 15, 2017, at which point the station changed its call sign to KUAO.
