KRAX radar

The KRAX radar is a NEXRAD Doppler weather radar station located in Clayton, North Carolina. The radar site covers the central North Carolina Area (Raleigh[1]- Durham[2]- Chapel Hill[3]) area. The radar is maintained by[4] NWS Raleigh NC. The radar has a coverage range of 180 miles.[5]

The following upgrades have been performed on the radar site:

    • SLEP Upgrade - Service life Extension Program [6][7]
    • Dual Pol Upgrade - Dual Polarization [8]
    • MESO-SAILS Upgrade [9]
    • Transmitter Chassis Refurb (Estimated Upgrade to KRAX Is November 26 2018) [10]
    • M.R.L.E. Rescan Upgrade (Estimated Upgrade to KRAX Is May 20 2018) [11]
    • Build 18.0 Upgrade
