KUER-FM is a public radio station licensed to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States. Broadcasting at 90.1 MHz FM, KUER (Utah Education Radio) is a National Public Radio (NPR)-member station, also airing shows distributed by Public Radio International and American Public Media. The station produces the award-winning RadioWest, a local discussion forum hosted by Doug Fabrizio. In addition, the station carries most of the regular NPR fare, such as All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! and Morning Edition, as well as local news. Most of the station's syndicated fare, including This American Life, On the Media, and Live From Here, is heard on weekends. Its studios are located in the Eccles Broadcast Center on the U of U campus, while its transmitter is located on Farnsworth Peak, after relocating from Mount Vision in the Oquirrh Mountains in 2011.

With the advent of digital FM radio, KUER has broadened its offerings. KUER-HD2 airs BBC News. KUER-HD3 broadcasts classical music from American Public Media's Classical 24.

KUER has a 10-watt booster in the town of Alta providing coverage there as the main transmitter is shielded by terrain.[2] It also has a second 1,000 watt booster on Lewis Peak, providing coverage to the Park City area.[3]

History

KUER debuted on June 5, 1960. Originally, it broadcast at only 250 watts and wasn't heard too far from the U of U campus. It gradually expanded its signal to 35,000 watts. The station was a charter member of NPR, and was one of the stations that carried the initial broadcast of All Things Considered.

Translator system

KUER-FM operates one of the largest translator networks of any NPR station in the country, consisting of 35 low-power repeaters. Of these, translator K202BU Manti is one of the few translators broadcasting in HD, airing the main station's two HD feeds.
