Personal Life

Harisankar was born on November 18, 1993, at Haripad, Alappuzha district, Kerala as the elder son of Dr. Alappuzha Sreekumar who worked as Principal of Swathi Tirunal Music College, Trivandrum and Veena Vidooshi exponent Kamala Lakshmi. He has a younger brother, K.S. Ravisankar, who is a violinist

He is the grandson of M.P.Gopalan Nair who worked as Chief Engineer in All India Radio & singer K. Omanakutty, while singer-music director late M. G. Radhakrishnan and M.G.Sreekumar are his mother’s uncles.[6]

Dr.K. S. Harisankar is married to his long time girl friend Dr. Gadha Sidharthan on 21 May 2017 at Trivandrum.

Biography

Harisankar is a trained classical singer under his father Aleppey Sreekumar and K. Omanakutty from Swathi Thirunal College of Music. He has won several awards and has appeared as a Carnatic vocalist at Music Academy, Chennai and several other venues in Kerala. He also own Pragathi, an independent fusion band.[6] He grew up under the tutelage of Dr.Omanakutty and her brothers M. G. Radhakrishnan and M. G. Sreekumar.[8]

Singing career

He sang his first song in GS Vijayan’s film “Saphalyam” with Yesudas. Later he sung with KS Chithra for the film “Rishivamsam”, directed by Rajeev Anchal.

But after a hiatus, it was music director Ouseppachan, who gave him an opportunity in the film “Karanavar” as a playback singer. Since then there has been no look back for Harishankar as he went on to work with composer Vidyasagar (composer). “He actually gave me a break in films like Ennum Eppozhum and Anarkali (2015 film). A trained classical singer, Harishankar holds the view that by assessing film songs, one cannot judge the yardstick of a singer nowadays as technology plays a major role in the creation. “As technology advances, singers’ identity loses. There are imitations also,” he opines.

Awards

Harisankar won the most promising new singer 2015 asiavision award for the song Nilaavum Maayunnu from Ennum Eppozhum.[9][10]
