Juris Cibuļs

Juris Cibuļs (Latgalian: Jurs Cybuļs, born 6 December 1951 Rekova) is a Latvian publicist, humanist, linguist and translator.

Early life and education

Juris Cibuļs was born in Rekova Abrene district, Republic of Latvia. He studied at University of Latvia.

Organizations

1978 member of National Geographic Society. From 1989 to 1992 Cibuls was a member of the Council of People's Deputies in Balvi District. 1995 member of Maledicta and Amici Linguarum.

Career

In years 1985-1990 reporter of "Skolotāju Avīze" (Teacher's Newspaper).

In years 1989 - 1990 he became deputy head of the local unit of Popular Front of Latvia in Balvi District.

In 1990 he was MP in the Supreme Council of the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic.

In 1994 Cibuls was appointed to as a coordinator of the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Naturalization Office of the Republic of Latvia.

Books

In 1992 published together with Lideja Leikuma Latgalian Alphabet book.

In 2003 he wrote a book "Vasals!" - Grammar of Latgalian Language.

Collection

Jurs Cibuļs is collecting Alphabet books in different languages. Currently there are 8000 Alphabet books from 210 countries in 970 languages and dialects.[1] His collections has been presented in more that 170 exhibitions[2] and museums[3] (www.abc-world.nl).
