Julius Dein is an English street magician.

Biography

Dein was educated at JFS (Jewish Free School) in Kenton, north west London, where he first performed magic both at school and at parties. Following school he attended King's College London, and on his study abroad year at UCLA he performed at events, and began making [1] prank videos[2][3][4] and social experiment videos.[5]

In 2016 Julius started posting videos of street magic to the internet, building an online audience of over 20 million followers across social media[6]. Since then, he has made appearances across radio and TV, including Talk Sport [7] London Live[8] as well as US appearances on the Steve Harvey Show and Fox [9]. Subsequent videos included pranks such as proposing to strangers.[2] He has been a guest on talkRADIO.[10] In 2015, an article in the Jewish Chronicle called him the "Hollywood Magician", due to his appearances at celebrity events.[11]

Dein was the first digital signing in the UK by American talent agency UTA in June 2017.[12]

Reception

Dein's videos have received a mix of positive and negative coverage. News sites have covered some of his videos.[13][14] Huffington Post writer Ryan Barrell described one of Dein's pranks as being "so simple, but so funny.", and noted that Dein was a "brave man" for pulling off the prank.[14] Others were less impressed. The Irish Independent cited Dein as one of several misogynistic video pranksters on YouTube.[15] while the Mail Online called some of his pranks "cruel".[16]
