Joseph M. Humire

Joseph M. Humire is the executive director of the Center for a Secure Free Society and is a recognized expert on matters of national security and counter-terrorism. Humire has provided testimony on transnational threats in the Western Hemisphere to the U.S. Congress, as well as to members of the European, Canadian, and Andean Parliaments. Humire has appeared as a regular commentator for English and Spanish language media including Univision, Telemundo, CNN en Español and CNN International, as well as China’s CGTN. Humire served for eight years in the United States Marine Corps, where he participated in a multinational exercise in Latin America and the Caribbean after serving a combat tour in Iraq. After leaving the Marine Corps, he earned a degree in Global Affairs and Economics from George Mason University.^[1] In 2016, Humire served as an expert witness in a trial in Lima, Peru, of an accused terrorist and Hezbollah operative, Mohammad Ghaleb Hamdar.^[2]

In October 2014, Mr. Humire released his first book, "Iran’s Strategic Penetration of Latin America," published by Lexington Books. Prior to becoming executive director of SFS, Humire served as the Director of Institute Relations at the Atlas Economic Research Foundation.
