Personal life

Born to Italian immigrants, La Piana was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens,[5] and now lives and works in Brooklyn. In an interview with Life + Times, La Piana said he often would draw, paint, and sculpt anything he could get his hands onto from an early age.[6]

La Piana is an avid participant in philanthropy, donating artwork and supporting many charities like The Center (LGBT Community Center NYC),[7][8] Coalition for the Homeless (ArtWalkNY),[9][10][11] CITYarts, Inc.,[12] and Lambda Legal[13]

La Piana received a bachelor's degree from Florida State University in 1988.
