Joseph Guay

1999–2005

In 1999, Guay had his first solo art exhibition with Anthony Ardavin Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2001, Macon & Company Gallery and Raymond Lawrence Gallery included his work in their group art exhibitions. That same year, Momus Gallery included his work in a group exhibition. Sir Elton John attended the event and began collecting Guay's art. Momus Gallery went on to do two solo exhibitions and three group exhibitions of Guay's work. During this time, Guay focused on black and white base-resin photographs. In 2003, Guay's images caught the eye of art dealer, Fay Gold. She was best known for her involvement in the career of John-Michael Basquiat, Keith Haring, Robert Mapplethorpe, Herb Ritts and Helmut Newton. FayGoldGallery That year, Fay included Guay in a group exhibition and quickly followed it up with a solo show. Fay Gold went on to do two more group exhibitions and another solo art exhibition with Guay’s work. He began exhibiting in Miami, NYC, and Santa Fe. His large scale base-resin photographs were also commissioned for Burj Khalifav in Dubai, UAE.

2006–2010

In the fall of 2006, Ed Roland, lead singer of the band Collective Soul, offered Guay the opportunity to collaborate as their photographer. Google Guay agreed and went on to create iconic images, three album covers, four music videos and a documentary film on Collective Soul. Roland later noted in a Billboard magazine article: “Joseph is on the top of my list as one of the purest artists I’ve met. He has a great eye and more importantly, a great heart. He’s the real deal.” ^[2] In 2010, Sir Elton John quickly offered the same opportunities to Guay. Google He joined Sir Elton John and Leon Russell for the studio sessions of the collaboration album, "The Union". Guay captured images for the album’s packaging as well as images that would gain publication in Rolling Stone Magazine, Billboard Magazine, USA Today, The LA Times, The Times-UK, The Guardian-UK, The Independent- UK, Event Magazine-UK, Daily Mirror Magazine-UK, and Sun Magazine. His images were also used by Swarovski Crystals, Yamaha, Apple iTunes, Starbucks, Caesars Palace, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Guay went on to photograph images for three of Sir Elton John's albums ( Wonderful Crazy Nights, The Diving Board, and The Union ) and assisted the Sir Elton John Photography Collection for seven years. During this time, Guay also photographed and filmed projects for other stars including Steve Martin, Ringo Starr, Elliot Easton from "The Cars", Clem Burke from "Blondie", and Wally Palmer from "the Romantics. USA Today Jackson Fine Art hosted a solo exhibition for Guay’s new series titled “Memory Portraits”.^[4][5][6] The work was included in Art Miami and Hutter Fine Art in Los Angeles. 2015–present

In 2015, Alan Avery Art Company represented Guay’s artwork and included his base-resin photographs in a group exhibition. Soon after, Guay declined gallery representation and left the successful formula he created and ventured into a body of political and social statement paintings and sculptures titled “Remnants of the Human Condition”. .^{[7][8][9][10]} Guay states it was his first time finding his real voice as an artist, expressing political impact with his art.^[11] In the spring of 2016, Guay met James Chappuis, owner of Westside Cultural Arts Center ( formerly Fay Gold Gallery ). VOYAGEALT Chappuis offered Guay a solo exhibition with true artistic expression and no limitations on the work. Guay created large-scale paintings, bullet ammunition panels and sculptures paying tribute to Trayvon Martin, Alton Sterling, Eric Garner, Pulse Nightclub, Sandy Hook Elementary, the World Trade Center, the Boston Marathon Bombings and the Dallas Police Officer Shootings. Guay received national media attention for his giant departure into the political statement artwork titled "Remnants of the Human Condition." Sir Elton John purchased the main sculptures from the series, and Billboard Magazine reviewed the exhibition.^[2] Billboard

In 2017, Guay created his largest sculpture and public art installation to date, “The Border Wall”. ArtSatl It was constructed completely by hand using only undocumented Mexican labor workers. The structure is made from welded steel, rebar and concrete, 40 feet in length by 16 feet tall, weighing over 40,000 pounds. It was modeled after the proposed $20 Billion dollar wall for the US / Mexico 1989 mile border. The project was featured on CNN Espanol and several national and International publications.

Guay’s new series “DUEL // DUAL” continues to expand his message and voice in political and social statement art. West Side Arts Center
