Jose Roberto "Robbie" Antonio (born 1977) is a real estate developer and managing director of Century Properties, a Philippine real estate development company established by his father, Jose E. B. Antonio, in 1986.[1][2]

Biography

Robbie is the son of José E. B. Antonio, named among the Philippines' 40 richest people.[3][4] Antonio attended Northwestern University where he got a first degree in Economics and pursued his MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business.[3]

Career

After graduating school Antonio spent five years in New York[5] where he founded Antonio Development company. He, along with Pei Partnership, developed Centurion in New York City.[6][7][8][9]

In the Philippines Antonio is a managing director at Century Properties, heading its International Collaborations division.[1][3][4][6] He has led construction projects such as Trump Tower at Century City, Acqua Iguazu, Acqua Livingstone, Milano Residences, Century Spire, Forbes Media Tower and Paris Beach Club at Azure Urban Resort Residences.[1][3][6] Antonio has overseen the development of over 45 million square feet of real estate in the Philippines and the United States.[1] He is responsible for arranging some of the company's collaborations, such as with Armani/Casa for the Century Spire,[10] and Trump for Trump Tower Manila.[11]

Antonio is the producer of Revolution, a Manila-based series of prefabricated structures by other designers, such as Daniel Libeskind, Sou Fujimoto, and Lenny Kravitz.[12]

Personal life

Antonio is a noted art collector.[1][13] In 2013 his 25,000 square foot Manila home was completed. The house, which Antonio named "Stealth", was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and includes a dedicated private gallery of portraits he has commissioned of himself by famous artists, such as Julian Schnabel, Marilyn Minter, David Salle, Zhang Huan, members of the Bruce High Quality Foundation, and Takashi Murakami.[14]

A profile by Vanity Fair commented on the extreme disparity between Antonio's wealth and the average income of the Philippines.[14] In a 2013 op-ed in the Manila Times, the article claimed that the Antonio family was on the Forbes list of top 40 wealthiest Filipinos and that they were not listed in the top 500 taxpayers of BIR's. He characterized Antonio's personal spending on vanity projects and relatively modest philanthropic spending as indicative of inequality in the Philippines where the average family income in 2013 was $4,988.[15]

However, BIR records show that the Antonios were among the top 500 taxpayers in the Philippines in 2012[16] and 2013.[17]

He is a board director of Operation Smile Philippines which was unveiled in 2012 by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, executive vice presidents of The Trump Organization.[18][19]
