José Lloréns Echevarría (ca. 1840 - ca. 1920) was Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1898.[1] He is best remembered for his handling of the prostitution problem in the city as brought up by the political activist and journalist from Ponce, Ramon Mayoral Barnes.[2] Due to the American centralizing government in San Juan after the invasion of the Island, the American military governor of Puerto Rico at the time, Major General Guy Vernon Henry, removed Lloréns Echevarría as mayor of Ponce and installed Luis Porrata Doria on 12 November 1898.[3]
