John Rowlatt

Sir John Rowlatt KCIE KCB (1898-1956) was a British tax lawyer who served as First Parliamentary Counsel.

He was the third son of Sidney Rowlatt, a notable judge who presided over the a committee regarding British India. John was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. He reached manhood during World War I, served in the Coldstream Guards, lost a leg, and was awarded the Military Cross. [1]

After the war, he qualified as a lawyer and went into policy. He drafted the Income Tax Act 1952.[2]
