John Mole (poet)
John Mole (born 1941 in Taunton, England)[1] is an English poet for adults and children.
Poetry
Mole has won several prizes for his poetry, including an Eric Gregory Award, the Cholmondeley Award, and the Signal Award for children's poetry.[1] He is writer in residence at Magdalene College, Cambridge and poet in residence to the Poets Society in the City of London.[2] He is also poet in residence for the Poet in the City charity scheme.[3]
John Mole's many poems for children include "Variations on an Old Rhyme"[4] and "The Balancing Man", both of which discuss political issues in a manner relevant to young people.[1] He wrote the libretto to the opera Alban, a community opera composed by Tom Wiggall and performed in May 2009 in St Albans Cathedral. Treatment is a string of poems that amount to a personal response to a course of chemotherapy.[5]
A reading of his poetry for the Poetry Archive appeared on CD. He is also a jazz clarinetist.[1]
