John Daniel Mallee (pronounced "MAY lee") (born May 5, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois) is the hitting coach of the Philadelphia Phillies. He was previously the hitting coach of the Florida Marlins, Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs baseball teams.
Prior to his coaching career, Mallee played professionally in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system from 1991 to 1992. Drafted by the Phillies in the 10th round of the 1991 amateur draft out of University of Illinois, Chicago, Mallee hit .208 in 115 career minor league games. He then served as the Marlins minor league hitting coordinator for nine seasons.[1]
