John Gray (1836 – 1 June 1887) was awarded the Medal of Honor[1] for his actions at the Battle of Port Republic on 9 June 1862 when he "mounted an artillery horse of the enemy and captured a brass 6-pound piece in the face of the enemy's fire and brought it to the rear".[2]

He received the medal on 14 March 1864.[1]
