John Dalziel is the coach for the Scotland national rugby sevens team and a former player. He played for Gala RFC, Border Reivers and Melrose RFC. He began coaching while at Melrose, and went on have coaching roles with Scotland national under-20 rugby union team and London Scottish F.C..

Rugby playing career

Dalziel played for London Scottish F.C. for a season in the 1990s.[1] He played club rugby for Gala RFC as a back-row forward and captained the club.[2]

He was called up to play for the Borders in the Celtic league.[3] In 2005 he signed to play with the Border Reivers professional team.[2][4]

Rugby coaching career

After the Borders professional team were disbanded in 2007, Dalziel played for Melrose RFC and also became forwards coach. He was promoted to head coach for the 2013–14 season.[5] Melrose won the league title in the final seconds of the season.[6]

In September 2012 he was appointed as assistant coach for the Scotland national under-20 rugby union team.[7] In September 2015 he was promoted to head coach of the Scotland national under-20 rugby union team.[8]

The following year he left Melrose and took on a full-time coaching role with Scottish Rugby.[9] He was appointed as the forwards coach of London Scottish F.C. for the 2016–17 season, who were competing in the RFU Championship.[10]

The following season he was as appointed the coach for the Scotland national rugby sevens team.[11]
