John Clancy is a Labour councillor for Quinton ward in Birmingham, England.[1] He was the leader of Birmingham City Council from 1 December 2015 until his resignation on 11 September 2017.

He was previously councillor for the city's Hodge Hill ward from 2002 to 2006, and was elected to represent Quinton in May 2011.[1] He also served as election agent for the Birmingham Edgbaston MP Gisela Stuart in 2001.[1]

Clancy is from Stockport, Greater Manchester, but has lived in Birmingham since around 1990.[1] His career has included stints as a teacher, university lecturer and solicitor.[1] He is married to a teacher and they have one daughter.[1]

Following a series of strikes by the waste collection services in Birmingham, Clancy resigned on 11 September 2017.[2] A vote of no confidence had been tabled in his ability to lead, and this contributed to his departure.
