John Appleton (judge)
John Appleton (July 12, 1804 - February 7, 1891), was a Justice and Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court from May 11, 1852 to September 19, 1883.
Born at New Ipswich, New Hampshire, Appleton graduated from Bowdoin College in 1822, and read law to be admitted to the bar in 1826.[1] He resided in Augusta, Maine,[2] where he was appointed to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court by Governor John Hubbard. He became Chief Justice on October 24, 1862.[1]
He died in Bangor, Maine.[1]
