Joey Wat (Chinese: 屈翠容; pinyin: Qū Cuìróng; born c. 1971) is a Chinese business executive, Chief Executive Officer of Yum China Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: YUMC) and has been a member of Yum China’s board of directors since July 2017. Prior to that, she served as president and chief operating officer at Yum China. She also served as CEO of KFC China, managing director of A.S. Watson Group UK, managing director of Savers and spent seven years in management consulting including at McKinsey & Company in Hong Kong.[1][2][3]

As of May 2018, she is one of only 24 female CEOs on the Fortune 500.[4][5][6]

Biography

Wat was born in Fujian Province in China and moved to Hong Kong with her family at a young age.[7] Three years before attending university, she worked part time in a Chinese restaurant.[8][9]

Education

Wat received her Bachelor’s degree from Hong Kong University and an MBA from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management.[10][11][7]

Career

Wat started her career at A.T. Kearney as a consultant.[8] After leaving A.T. Kearney, she was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company in Hong Kong from 2000 to 2003.[12][13]

She joined A.S. Watson Group UK in 2004 where she held a number of management and strategy positions until 2014, including managing director of A.S. Watson Group UK. In September 2014, she moved back to China and joined Yum China, where she first served as president of KFC China before being promoted to chief executive officer of KFC China in 2015. Wat then served as president and chief operating officer of Yum China and became a member of Yum China’s board of directors in 2017. Since March 1, 2018, she has served as Yum China’s chief executive officer.[1][14][15]

Awards

Wat was ranked as one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Business Leaders in China”[16] and as one of the “Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Business in China” by Fortune Chinese Edition in 2018 and 2017 respectively.[17][18]

Personal life

Joey is married to John H. Ott, a senior partner at Bain & Company. They have one child. She is a dual HK & British citizen.
