Joel Dommett (born 8 June 1985) is an English comedian and actor known for his television roles in Skins, Live in Chelsea, Impractical Jokers UK, I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and Joel & Nish vs The World.

Career

Dommett is originally from Rockhampton and attended The Castle School in Thornbury.[1] He moved to London at the age of 19. His first stand-up gig was at a bar in Los Angeles and he has since performed in locations including Reykjavik, Gravesend and The Netherlands.[2] In 2008, he won Best Newcomer award and was a finalist in Stand Up Comedian of the year. Also in 2008, he appeared in a feature film called The Edge of Love, a Second World War drama.[3] In 2009, he was a co-host on Paul Foot's podcast from episode 1-20. Dommett is a member of National Youth Theatre.[4]

In 2010, Dommett appeared in a recurring role in E4's Skins as D.C. Sweeney and appeared in all six episodes of Popatron,[5] a sitcom produced by Charlie Brooker's Zeppotron that appeared on BBC Two as part of its BBC Switch brand. Beginning in 2011, Dommett hosted Live in Chelsea, a live discussion show revolving around the events of the popular reality show Made in Chelsea. Dommett appeared in the first two series of Impractical Jokers UK from 2012 until 2014 on BBC Three.[6][7]

In 2015, Dommett was a team captain on ITV2's comedy show Reality Bites.[8] He was also a regular panellist on Nicole Scherzinger's team on the Sky 1 panel show Bring the Noise.[9] In November 2015, Dommett appeared on a celebrity edition of The Chase.[10]

In November 2016, Dommett took part in the sixteenth series of I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and finished in second place, losing out to Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt.[11][12]

Alongside numerous stand up gigs throughout the U.K., 2017 also saw Dommett travel the world with fellow comedian Nish Kumar in Joel & Nish vs The World. Here, Dommett would undertake a series of challenges ranging from ultra marathons to kung fu, whilst being encouraged by Kumar.

A little later in 2017, Dommett released his first book of memoirs, It’s Not Me It’s Them, Confessions of a hopeless modern romantic. The volume details the trials and tribulations Dommett has endured, and culminates in a romantic gesture to his fiancé Hannah Cooper. The book became an instant Times Bestseller.

After appearing on The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, The Crystal Maze, 8 out of 10 Cats, Roast Battle and appearances on Lorraine and Loose Women, Dommett performed his dream stand-up gig at the Hammersmith Apollo in December 2017.

Since November 2017, Dommett has co-presented I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp on ITV2 with Joe Swash and Scarlett Moffatt.[13]

2018 saw Dommett and Kumar again travel to a number of destinations, to film Joel & Nish vs The World 2. Here Kumar took more of an active role with both comedians testing their mettle, in activities ranging from sumo wrestling to sheep shearing.

This year also found Dommett involved in a documentary Celebrity Sexploitation, alongside Dan Lobb discussing the Catfishing incident which could have broken his career. As a comedian Dommett was able to minimise the impact the leak had, however in talking about it he hopes others can avoid going through what happened to him.

Following another appearance on An Extra Slice, Dommett, along with a number of other comedians performed in the first Comedy Central (UK and Ireland) Live festival in Southhampton, during October 2018 and is due to return to the I’m A Celebrity: Extra Camp when the show returns.

Despite the hectic schedule, Dommett and his fiancé Cooper have hinted at plans to marry in 2019.
