Jo'burg Giants is a professional Twenty20 cricket franchise team of the T20 Global League in South Africa, which represents the city of Johannesburg. It is owned by GMR Group, a company from Bengaluru, India that are also owners of the Delhi Daredevils franchise in Indian Premier League. The marquee player of the Joburg Giants is Kagiso Rabada.[3]
Cricket South Africa's T20 Global League is going to be the first Twenty20 cricket tournament in the country to feature eight privately owned franchises, representing eight cities of South Africa. The format of the competition is quite similar to the other popular leagues across the globe such as IPL, BBL and CPL.[4]
Johannesburg is one of the eight cities, which will be represented in the 2017 T20 Global League. The franchise is owned by the GMR Group, which already has experience with international T20 league teams. Delhi Daredevils, one of the sides in the Indian Premier League, is owned by the group. The GMR Group is looking to expand its horizons, by investing in the cricket franchise in South Africa.[5]
Sridharan Sriram, a former India player and a current spin consultant with the Australian cricket team, has been appointed the head coach of the side.[1]
