James Stevenson (1877–3 July 1916) was a Scottish professional football inside forward who played in the Football League for Derby County, Newcastle United, Grimsby Town and Leicester Fosse.[1] He also played in the Scottish League for Clyde.[3]
Personal life
Stevenson served as a private in the Highland Light Infantry during the First World War and was killed during a failed attack, south of Thiepval, during the early stages of the Battle of the Somme on 3 July 1916.[4] He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.[2]
