Jiji Maa is an Indian television series produced by Jay Productions. It is a family-oriented drama. The show began airing on 9 October 2017 on Star Bharat.^[1][2][3]

The show is the official remake of Telugu soap opera, Lakshmi Kalyanam which is being aired on Star Maa.

Story overview

The story revolves around two sisters, Falguni and Niyati Purohit who hail from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Falguni, the elder sister is an epitome of love and sacrifice who wholeheartedly stands the test of time laid down by Uttara Devi Rawat, the antagonist of the show. Falguni is always in the line of fire for her little sister Niyati without a blink.^[4]

Plot

Falguni Purohit and Niyati Purohit are sisters. Falguni is older than Niyati. They are poor and live with their mother who feeds them by sewing. But she dies in an accident and tells Falguni that she is not Niyati's Jiji anymore. She is her Jiji Maa from now onwards. Then Falguni continues to sew clothes to bring up Niyati like her mother. She remains illiterate but educates Niyati. The show then shows Falguni and Niyati as grown up girls in their home in Jaipur.

Uttara Rawat is a bad tempered and arrogant lady who hates poor people. Falguni and Uttara meet for the first time and get into a fight. Falguni asks Uttara to ask for forgiveness from his driver to whom she had slapped and he was not at fault. Uttara is irked but to save her image in front of the whole crowd she asks for forgiveness but starts to hate Falguni and swears to destroy her life. Meanwhile, Suresh Driver sees her and falls in love with Falguni and becomes her friend and helps her in troublesome moments But he is actually Suyash Rawat (Uttara's older son). Then, one day Niyati tries to commit suicide but fails. Falguni slaps her and asks her the reason. Niyati tells that she is pregnant. Vidhaan Rawat (Uttara Rawat's younger son) was her boyfriend but they broke up with one another.

Falguni promises to reunite both. She goes to Uttara but she refuses and insults her for being poor and dreaming to make her sister a queen. Falguni swears to persuade her. But Uttara keeps pushing Falguni into new trails. During all this, Vidhaan and Niyati patch up and he talks to Uttara about their marriage to which Uttara straight forwardly refuses saying that he can't marry Niyati because he is born in a Rawat Family. He can only marry her after dying and being born in a poor family. At this a heart-broken Vidhaan tries to commit suicide, but Falguni saves him. Seeing this, unwillingly, Uttara Devi agrees to get them both married. Then she creates hurdles in marriage and tries to break the marriage but all in vain.

Next, an unknown man calls her and tells her about a will. It is then revealed that Uttara is Suyash’s maternal aunt. His mother was Gayatri and she was Uttara's sister. Suyash's grandpa wrote everything to Suyash and his children would get the property. Uttara then decides to make Suyash marry a girl who can never become a mother, so that there cannot be an heir to the family.

Falguni and Suresh the Driver confess love and next day Uttara makes Falguni sign an agreement which says that she will never become a mother and she will have to marry her older son and says that only then will she allow Niyati to marry Vidhaan. Falguni, for Niyati's sake, says yes and undergoes an operation to remove her uterus so that she can never be a mother. Not knowing that Suresh Driver (Suyash) is her older son, she refuses to his proposal and insults him for his poverty and says that a rich guy is willing to marry her. Uttara does a drama and says that to overcome a problem (dosh) in Niyati and Vidhaan's marriage, Suyash will have to marry in the same mandap and a heart-broken Suyash agrees.

Niyati makes a strategy to stop Falguni's marriage but in vain. When Falguni's ghungat is lifted so that Suyash can apply Sindoor in her hairline they both see each other and are shocked. Falguni is happy that she ultimately married her love but Suyash is hurt that she chose a rich man over a poor driver. Thus, a new chapter of their lives begin.

Falguni tries to win Suyash's heart but all in vain. He says that there is no relation between them but Falguni tries her best. She sends tiffin for him but he sends it back. She takes it to office all by herself. He refuses but she insists. Then a worker knocks and says that head of Kalakaars Teja Ji is not going to work for us anymore. He and his other men are demanding something to which Uttara has refused. Falguni says I will talk to them but in exchange Suyash will have to eat tiffin. Suyash hopelessly agrees. She goes to talk but Teja says we don't need to talk from any guy of management. She says I'm not management. I'm a Kalakaar like you. She impresses them and they agree to work. Suyash is impressed but then few days later all Kalakaars become jobless as Uttara kicks them out by installing machinery in factory on saying of his newly joined Villain assistant Tarun (idiot).

Teja comes to Falguni who consoles him and says that she will talk to Uttara. Falguni goes to talk and it results in a saree competition to see who is better. Falguni wins and Kalakaars get their jobs back. Falguni is thus taken into office projects. She keeps a fast which is not broken by Suyash up to 2 days. He then comes and breaks her fast. (His heart softens a bit for her). Gayatri is revealed to have murdered someone the cause of which is unknown. Jayant (Suyash and Vidhaan's dad) hates her due to misunderstanding between them created by Uttara. On Suyash’s birthday, Falguni tells him about Gayatri being her mother but she had gone away before it. He goes to find her but in vain. He fails in finding her and hires an investigator to find her. Falguni assists Suyash with this and he asks for her forgiveness for being ignorant towards her and treating her the way he did, he understood that there was a reason Falguni did what she did, but doesn't hear it, and accepts her. They are openly in love once again, but Uttara is prepared to throw spanners in the works again.

Later a child named Chiku is brought to Rawat House and left their with a letter. The letter is written to ‘Mr Rawat’ which suggests the child could be Suyash, Vidhaan or Jayant’s child. It is revealed Chiku is the illegitimate child of Suyash and Shreya, a girl who went to the same college as Suyash. The family cannot believe this and ask Shreya to leave, however Falguni asks her to stay. Soon Shreya pretends to die in an accident and made Falguni promise not give birth to her own child so she could give all her love to Chiku. Falguni goes to Mumbai, with Uttara Devi for the hysterectomy, where it is revealed that Shreya is alive and working with Uttara. Falguni gets to know this and pretends to die so she could reveal Uttara Devi’s true colours to Suyash, Vidhaan and Jayant. They do not believe Falguni when she tells them about Uttara’s crimes, so she asks for 24 hours to get Uttara Devi to confess her crimes. Falguni acts as a spirit to haunt Uttara Devi and get her to confess her crimes. However Suyash does not believe this, and believes Falguni is threatening Uttara to confess to an act she hasn't done. Later Falguni takes the help of Shreya to disclose Uttara Devi's true colours to the family. She asked Shreya to come as a dancer to Rawat Villa and at the peak of the dance Uttara Devi sees Shreya and tries to kill her but Vidhaan comes in front of her and supposedly killed. Mourning on his ‘death’, she reveals her truth and discloses herself in front of everyone . Hence, she is arrested but before going to jail she vows to ruin the family. None of them are able to forget her. Niyati and Falguni decide to celebrate Rakshabhandhan festival. After they celebrate janamastami festival where they come to know that Uttra had run from jail . She came to kill falguni but unfortunately she is disclose to all however she manage to escape and came to a ghat where Vidhaan told that its better to have no mother despite of you . This made her disheartened and fall off from a cliff . However fate had other plans for falguni . She met her twin sister Pyaali Segal who wanted to ruin falguni and Suyash and rawats . She force rawats to tranfet their textile brands to her. For further spoilage of rawats she invite Uttra devi who escaped and come back to company Pyaali and ruin falguni . Pyaali intentionally ruin rawat textiles as Vidhaan signs the deal pyaali suceeded to make falguni stop signing up the deal . For this Vidhaan is beaten up and hopitalized . Taking advantage of this pyaali wins the heart of Niyati . Later Niyati titles Pyaali as her'jiji maa'. Falguni is heart broken of this and becomes dingy. Suyash has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer and wants to seperate himself from Falguni so that she doesn't become very hurt. Pyaali begins to assist Suyash in his tests and they start a new friendship. Suyash gives Falguni divorce papers and says he is tired fo their relationship, although he loves her more than anyone in the world and does not want to lose her. Niyati sees Falguni crying ,and although she hates her, feels something from within for her and just as she as about to go and speak to her, Pyaali, her new Jji Maa, comes in and stops her. Falguni weeps in front of the statue of her beloved God whilst all the family members, except Pyaali and Uttara, watch her and feel sorry for her.
