The Jellyvision Lab, Inc., doing business as Jellyvision, is an American software house based in Chicago, Illinois. Founded by Harry Nathan Gottlieb in February 1989, it shares a long history with its former video game developer subsidiary, Jellyvision Games, until the two formally split in 2001, and Jellyvision Games would eventually be renamed Jackbox Games in 2008.

History

In 1989, Harry Nathan Gottlieb conceived the idea of founding his first own company, Learn Television, which began on February 17, 1989, as an educational media company. On May 30, 1995, the company's name was changed to Jellyvision, Inc., to reflect the company's shift of focus from education to entertainment.[1] Additionally, Jellyvision Games was founded the same year to release the first installment of You Don't Know Jack, created by Gottlieb around 1993.[2]

After a formal split of Jellyvision Games from its parent, Jellyvision would be re-incorporated as The Jellyvision Lab, Inc. on July 26, 2001, so to use Gottlieb's approach to human-machine interfaces (the "interactive conversation interface") outside of games.[3] Jellyvision Games was later rebooted as Jackbox Games in 2008.[2]
