James Veitch (/ˈviːtʃ/; born 1 April 1980) is an English comedian. He is mostly known for his humorous interactions with the authors of scam emails.

Career

Veitch worked as a film editor on the 2006 film Papa Joe[1] and as a digital intermediate conform artist on the 2008 movie Middle of Nowhere.[2]

Veitch's first solo comedy show, "The Fundamental Interconnectedness of Everyone with an Internet Connection", debuted at Brighton Fringe in May 2014[3] as part of the arts industry showcase WINDOW,[4] and ran in August at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.[5][6] The show concerned scam emails, Veitch's humorous responses to them and, more broadly, the nature of the Internet. "The Internet is, like much of life, full to the brim with uncertainties. On the one hand it's allowed a doctor in Dubai to perform a life-saving operation on a patient in Peking. On the other hand it's also allowed me to enroll a gerbil at Eton. I'm not sure where I stand, is basically what I'm saying."[7]

The show was described by the Sunday Herald as "Topically brilliant comedy. Tears-down-the-face funny,"[8] and by The Scotsman as containing "Near-constant belly laughs".[9]

Veitch also presents the Mashable video series "Scamalot" on YouTube.[10]

He has appeared on the talk show Conan twice, explaining his life as ersatz landlord[11] and cooperative flatmate.[12]

James Veitch recorded three TED talks in 2015 and 2016. One chronicles Veitch’s encounter with a supermarket chain’s marketing emails, and the other two are about scam emails.[13][14][15]

In 2018 he starred in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (Allstars Supershow).[16]

Veitch has also been a guest presenter on the live trivia gameshow HQ Trivia.

According to his TED speaker page, he lives in London with a "full body pillow".[17]
