James DuBose is an American television producer, filmmaker and veteran entertainment industry executive.[1] Credited as a pioneer of unscripted programming,[2] the North Carolina native is widely regarded for garnering record-breaking television network numbers;[3][4] while "focusing on people during their darkest hour trying to rebuild their lives." [5] He is executive producer of Dish Nation, WAGS Atlanta, From the Bottom Up[6],[7] The BET original film The Start Up[8] starring Diggy Simmons,[9][10] Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is,[11] Keyshia & Daniel: Family First,[12], Brothers to Brutha[13] Tiny and Toya,[14] Drumroll: SWD[15] the Dallas Austin Peachtree TV docu-series for Turner Broadcasting,[16] Season of the Tiger,[17] Run's House[18] Monica: Still Standing,[19] The Michael Vick Project,[20] Frankie & Neffe,[21] Trey Songz: My Moment,[22] P. Early career

Reports reveal DuBose led a brief NFL career, drafted by the Detroit Lions in 1990.[25]

A call for DuBose's contribution to the nationwide live sports broadcast[21] of the Centennial Olympic Games[26] led the producer to briefly relocate to Atlanta. During his service to the International Olympic Committee[27] as an NBC producer,[28] DuBose connected with Solid Gold creator Brad Lachman, who DuBose credits as a "mentor".[29]

DuBose's journey to becoming a "Rising Star"[30] of Wake Forest University[31] began after the former Defensive Lineman for the school's historic Demon Deacons football team[32] accepted a WFU football scholarship[33] – an offer presented to fewer than 3% of first year applicants.[34] It is noted that DuBose earned his Broadcast Communications degree under communications mentor, Professor Mary Dalton.[35]

Reports reveal the Wake Forest alum remains active on a grassroots level, having made returns to his home campus to engage "Journeys to Success" talks with students while sharing his career experiences.[36]

DuBose Entertainment

DuBose Entertainment is a millennial media and production company led by Hollywood producer James DuBose. DuBose Entertainment has produced several docu-dramas and is currently producing feature films and scripted television shows with several distribution partners.[37]

Before launching Dubose Entertainment, James DuBose served as President of Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs' Bad Boy Television under the Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment brand. For his role of results, DuBose is credited for his executive eye in bringing the 'real' to reel, captivating audiences while generating top-billing numbers.[38]

In 2006, James DuBose founded DuBose Entertainment in 2006,[30] seeing the Los Angeles production company to grow to house 45 employees just in its first few years of operation.[36] By 2009, DuBose[39] joined forces with rapper MC Lyte and launched DuBose Music Group.[40] On August 27, 2009, Lyte took to her blog to announce the merger to her fans and colleagues.[21] "There is no doubt that James DuBose is a prolific producer of reality programming", she wrote.[21] "Who has become the go to guy for some of today's biggest names."[21] Two-years later, the pair signed dancehall reggae artist Beenie Man to the music label.[41] That same year, R&B singer Tweet joined the growing artist roster of DuBose Music Group.[42] In 2013, Tweet released a five-track EP, "Simply Tweet," under the DuBose brand.[42]

Personal life

DuBose's timeline began on December 4, 1969. Despite the location of his childhood upbringing in 1969 North Carolina, the mass-associated "southern hospitality" cultural factor was undeniably null and void from the producer's collective coming of age experience. For, both the time and place of DuBose's early beginnings occurred as the 1969 Greensboro uprising against Jim Crow laws of the south ignited.[43] In fact, the city scope of mainstream racism, discrimination, and segregation is proven to have been so profound, Human rights watchdogs of Greensboro moved to engage federal authorities to endorse the city's Audit of Housing Discrimination.[44]

During his early years, DuBose's single mother worked tirelessly at a Greensboro factory[45] as she struggled to raise DuBose during the city's noted "desegregation and integration" era.[46][47] Being exposed to such societal toxicities during childhood, combined with plausible resulting traumatic effects, the coming-of-age journey experienced by DuBose as a boy clearly defines a sharp contrast to that which the veteran Hollywood producer's children experience. [48] That's because DuBose successfully navigated his path above the societal traps he was exposed during his youth and landed a permanent escape from inner city housing project living.[49]

DuBose is reported to have future plans to launch a television production camp for children of low-income families.[49]

Film

James DuBose is an avid supporter of the Oakland Film Office.[50] He officiated his role as a film producer with the February 11th, 2018 release of the Dame Dash-directed, one-hour and twenty-four second Lionsgate film “Honor Up”.[51] According to the Los Angeles Times, "Damon Dash directed and stars in this crime drama about an OG trying to protect his family after a shootout in Harlem. Written by Stuart Acher and James Dubose; story by Damon Dash and Kevin Bennett."[52]
