Jaleh Daie

Dr. Jaleh Daie is founder and chairman of Agtech at the Band of Angels and Partner at Aurora Equity. Women in Tech Hall of Famer, Jaleh Daie is a multifaceted global thought leader & speaker. She blends strategic thinking w/ a relationship based approach in her numerous leadership roles as board director and executive in private and public sectors. A noted scientist w/ expertise in Agrifood tech & biotech, she has served administrations of three Presidents, worked in 8 countries, given numerous keynotes including Distinguished Speaker in S. Africa & Australia and has been quoted in major media (ABC, CBS, PBS, NY Times, SV Biz Journal, SF Chronicle, Science). As a board director Jaleh's value proposition is delivering insight, foresight and oversight. She has served as chairman, treasurer, secretary, as well as serving on exec comm and as chair of nomination comm and chair of Gala. Her board service include: SnapDNA, A6, Nokia Innovent, Investigen, Linkore, LightFull Foods, Selection of White House Fellows (under two Presidents); Assoc. Women in Science, Council of Scientific Society Presidents; CRDF Global, Commonwealth Club, US Space Foundation; Dean’s Council at UC-Davis. Currently, she is managing partner at Aurora Equity, investing in early stage start-ups. Previously, she was head of science at David & Lucile Packard Foundation and managed a diversified portfolio ($120 million/year). She has worked with the President’s National Science & Technology Council (cabinet level body), worked on Presidential initiatives and as special assistant to Chief Scientist at NOAA. Jaleh began at Rutgers and UW-Madison. She was professor; senior science adviser; dept. chair; conceptual architect & chief executive of multidisciplinary unit; founder, graduate program. In addition to her research, she simultaneously managed 3 independent operations. Her honors include: LSQ Ambassador (Australia), US Congressional Citation, Honorary Naval Aviator,Teksia Lifetime Achievement; honorary doctorate; Fellow (AAAS & AWIS); “25 Smartest”, Scientist’s Leaders of Science. Dr. Jaleh Daie' is a managing partner at Aurora Equity, an investment company in Palo Alto, California that provides financing for technology startups. She was the first woman on the U.S. Space Foundation board of directors, and was inducted in the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame in 1996.[1]

Dr. Daie has been head of her department at the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Rutgers University, and the University of Wisconsin–Madison and has been an advocate for women and girls in science and technology.[2] Dr. Daie is Iranian American and a member of the Iranian American Women Foundation.[3]
