Jamie Adenuga (born 4 May 1985), better known by his stage name Jme, is an English Grime MC.[1] He is the co-founder of the crew and label Boy Better Know.[2][3] Jamie was previously part of the grime crew Meridian along with his older brother, Joseph Adenuga (also known as Skepta).
In October 2008, he became one of a small number of unsigned artists to headline at the London Astoria.[4] As his fanbase has grown, Jme has travelled throughout Europe and North America with Tim Westwood to perform.[5]
Jme's third studio album, Integrity>, was released on 4 May 2015. It entered the UK Albums Chart at number twelve.[6]
Early life
Jamie Adenuga was born in Hackney, into a family who are originally from Nigeria.[7] He grew up in Tottenham, North London where he lived in a council house.[8] He attended St. Paul's School and then Winchmore School in Winchmore Hill, Enfield along with his elder brother Skepta. Adenuga subsequently graduated from the University of Greenwich receiving first class honours in 3D Digital Design.[9]
Career
He started out producing by making mobile phone ringtones. He later used Mario Paint, Game Boy Camera, Fruity Loops, and then a mixture of Pro Tools and Logic Studio. Adenuga also co-owns his own T-shirt chain, bearing the labels of himself,[10] his record label Boy Better Know, and his dormant nightclub Straight Outta Bethnal. He released his debut album Famous? and an album through a major label with the whole of Boy Better Know.
Jme released a single, "Over Me", in September 2009. He followed this single with another, "Sidetracked", which featured Wiley, followed by "CD is Dead", which featured Tempa T. These three singles are featured on the album, Blam!, which was released on 4 October 2010.
On 13 February 2011, Jme released a compilation album entitled "History:" which peaked at 162 on the UK Albums Chart.[11]
In January 2012, Jme released a single, "96 Fuckries", which entered the chart at number 41.[12]
In 2015, Jme released his last album, "Integrity", which was one of the 19 records nominated for the IMPALA Album of the Year Award.[13]
Personal life
Adenuga is a vegan, and is teetotal.[14][15][16] Adenuga is the brother of Beats 1 DJ Julie Adenuga
Jme married his longtime girlfriend Sarah Cavanagh in August 2016.[17]
During campaigning for the 2017 UK election, Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn met with Jme to encourage people to register to vote, with Jme saying "I’m on Jeremy’s Snapchat to make sure you register to vote".[18][19]
Jme is known to have involvement with YouTube group The Sidemen (consisting of KSI (Olajide Olatunji), W2S, or Wroetoshaw (Harry Lewis), Miniminter (Simon Minter), Zerkaa (Josh Bradley), Behzinga (Ethan Payne), TBJZL, or Tobjizzle (Tobi Brown), and Vikkstar123 (Vikram Barn). He is referred to by fans as the eighth Sideman and frequently features in their videos. Jme also plays in the Sidemen Charity Football Matches as a part of Sidemen FC, and was spotted at the KSI vs. Joe Weller boxing event. He also invited five Sidemen members (KSI, Behzinga, Miniminter, TBJZL and W2S), to play five-a-side football at the 2017 BBK Takeover at the O2 Arena in London.
On May 9th 2018, Jme welcomed the birth of his daughter Rose with wife Sarah Adenuga.
