J. Bentley (full name and dates of birth and death unknown) was an English first-class cricketer who made a single appearance for Sheffield against Manchester in 1846 at the Hyde Park Ground in Sheffield. Bentley's batting and bowling styles are unknown.[1]
In a match which Manchester won by an innings and 37 runs, Bentley opened the batting in Sheffield's first innings and was dismissed for a duck by Tom Hunt. He took two wickets in Manchester's first-innings, dismissing Samuel Baldwinson and J. Womack, though his exact bowling figures are unknown. Batting at number four in Sheffield's second innings, he was dismissed for 5 runs by Womack.[2][3]
