Itziar Zubizarreta began her work career in the field of Education in the Ikastola Herri Ametsa of Donostia in 1972, as a tutor in Compulsory Primary Education, where she began to work and develop the methodology of language.

After a while he left the direct work with children and was professor of the Diocesan College of Teachers of Donostia for 8 years, teaching children's literature, didactics of Children and Literature Teaching of Language. During this period, she developed courses, seminars, didactic experiences, etc. around the treatment of oral and written language. She created complementary material, on the one hand, inventing and writing stories and new plays of words and, on the other hand, Writing didactic materials related to language . [2]

From 1994, she also dedicated himself to oral narration, practicing storytelling for children. Zubizarreta has the perception that stories are the projection of the inner world of the human being and poses transcendental themes to children while giving them clues how to face them. He gives great importance to the way of telling the stories, as the narrator expresses his vision of the story in interpreting it. [3] In addition to his educational background, he has worked mainly with two organizations in which he has developed workshops, courses, workshops and other activities to promote reading and children's and young people's literature.

Galtzagorri Elkartea, the Association of Children and Youth Literature in Euskera, is the Basque branch of the OEPLI-IBBY. From 2002 Itziar Zubizarreta joined the Board of the Association,[4] and in 2008 created the project Bularretik mintzora (Chest to word) to encourage reading habits among children aged 0 to 6 years. This project is based on the fact that reading can be developed and acquired in the first months and years of life of babies, along with language. If parents read babies from their lap, they get used to rhythms, Cadences and concrete structures that will be the basis of future reading habits. In the Bularretik Mintzora campaign children are the target but the work is done on three fronts: family, school (teachers, educators) and public entities (Libraries, Town halls ... any professional who has Direct contact with minors) in order to promote reading habits. [5]

A popular activity of this project are the backpacks of ikastolas. It consists of the child receiving in the ikastola the backpack that he has to take, with his parents, to the library, where he will check out a story to read in class. The next week, another child takes over, making the children read, become members of the local library, and have the parents go to the library. This backpack connects the educational center, the family and the library.[6] Become members of the local library and have parents go to it.
