The International School of Beaverton (ISB) is a middle school/high school in the Beaverton School District. It is the only school in the district to offer both the IB Middle Years Programme and IB Diploma Programme courses. It serves grades 6 through 12. However, when the school was first opened in 2006, it only served grades 6 through 9. In 2012, U.S. News and World Report ranked the school as the best public high school in the state, and 20th in the nation. The current principal is Jill O'Neill.[1]

Academics

The school offers various standard courses in the areas of English, math, science, and social or global studies, as well as electives such as band, art, and choir. ISB also offers language courses, including Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. These courses extend beyond the United States standard of four consecutive years of study, and go into two additional years of International Baccalaureate curriculum.

Students in sixth grade are placed in standard level classes, but they have the option to choose whether to take the Band elective for the whole year, or to take Choir and Art each for a semester. They may also try out each language course for a quarter before deciding which to take for the rest of their schooling. Forecasting is done at the end of each year, to see which language and elective courses students wish to take in seventh grade.

Demographics

For the 2014-2015 school year, there were 480 students enrolled in the middle school and 389 in the high school. In the middle school, 0.2% of students were Native American, 27.2% Asian or Pacific Islander, 1.6% Black, 12.9% Hispanic, 48.7% White, and 9.1% other.
