The Institute of International Politics and Economics (Serbian Cyrillic: Институт за међународну политику и привреду) is a scientific institution established in 1947 and located in Belgrade, Serbia. It is one of the oldest institutes in southeastern Europe and its scientist laid the foundations of Yugoslav research of international relations. Over the years, the Institute has established close co-operation with the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.[4] The Institute's associates have participated as experts in state and other delegations at the UN General Assembly, the UN's Special Committees, the International Law Commission, the International Law Association, the United Nations Economic and Social Council, GATT, UNESCO and the Food and Agriculture Organization.[4] The Institute's library holds over 150,000 titles and it is one of depository libraries for the United Nations, European Union and NATO, holding copies of each document and title published by the three international organisations.[1]

History

The Institute of International Politics and Economics was established on 7 December 1947 by a Decree of the Government of the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia[1] The decree was signed by Josip Broz Tito, Andrija Hebrang, Milovan Đilas, Aleksandar Ranković and Edvard Kardelj.[1] The Institute is credited as one of the birthplaces of the idea for the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement.[1] Over the years, it has organised more than 500 national and international scientific conferences.[1] In 2017 the Institute was awarded the Feast of the Presentation Order, State decoration by the President of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolić.[5]
