The Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow (IET, Lucknow) is a state government-funded engineering college in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is a constituent college of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (erstwhile Uttar Pradesh Technical University).

History

IET was established by the government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984, for imparting technical education. The institute is fully financed by Uttar Pradesh Government and is being administered by the Executive Committee of Gautam Buddh Technical University.

The institute is fully residential. The institute was formerly affiliated(1984-1999) to the University of Lucknow and from 2000-2012 to Uttar Pradesh Technical University. The institute had been a constituent college of Gautam Buddh Technical University(2010-2012). Currently it is under Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University(2015–present). It is an autonomous Institute and recognized by AICTE.

IET Lucknow, started in November 1984, began with the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Lucknow University. Initially, it offered a B.Tech degree in three branches - Computer Science, Electrical and Electronics. Within a year, two more branches - Civil and Mechanical - were introduced. The campus was constructed by Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd (UPRNN) on an 100-acre (0.40 km2) plot purchased from the Lucknow Development Authority. UPRNN constructed a substation, academic block, eight boys’ hostels, three girls’ hostel and nearly 70 residences. LDA provided its support for construction of external roads, electric supply, drainage and sewage.

IET Lucknow

The founder director, Prof. Suresh Chandra, joined on 26 June 1984 and the teaching faculty joined their posts from 11 October 1984 onwards. The Director, IET Lucknow, also assumed the office of Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow University on 25 April 1985.

Admission

Admission is given on the basis of the rank obtained by the candidate in SEE-UPTU (State Engineering Examination - Uttar Pradesh Technical University). This exam is conducted by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University. Around 4,50,000 students appear in this exam every year seeking admission to more than 800 engineering as well as management colleges affiliated to AKTU.

IET Lucknow is ranked 1st amongst these 700 odd engineering colleges and is the most sought after college during UPSEE counseling.It is the premier engineering college of Uttar Pradesh government( along with HBTI Kanpur)

Hostels

The institute has hostel facilities for boys and girls. There are eight boys' and three girls' hostels. They accommodate around 1500 undergraduate and postgraduate students. Committees consisting of elected student representatives manage them. All the hostels are located in the campus.

Each hostel has its own mess, operated by an elected student representative. Each hostel is provided with a television, water-purifier, water-cooler and kit for indoor games and outdoor games. The hostels have a shop within its boundary for basic amenities.

Hostels are known as A and B blocks (Vishveshvaraiya Chhatravas), C and D blocks (Raman Chhatravas), E block (Bhabha Hostel), Aryabhatt Hostel, Ramanujam Hostel (For 1st year boys), RML hostel, Gargi Bhavan, Apala hostel and Sarojni Nayadu girls' hostel. A new girls hostel is under construction.

Culture and fest

"Encore" is the annual fest of the institute which is held each March. Other colleges from throughout the country are invited to participate in the fest. Encore stands for Endeavour, Nous, Creativity, Opera, Rollick and Enthusiasm. The event is intended to provide a platform for self-analysis and also enhance the management,organizational and other skills of the students. Events include: Stage Events Musical Night : Eastern Slot : Group songs, Filmi Solo, Non-filmi solo, Duet songs, Folk Songs. Western Slot : Solo, Group Songs, Instrumental, Classical Round. Choreography : Western Group, Western Solo, Folk Group, Folk Solo, Classical Solo, Choreography. Dramatics : Street Play, Skit, Stage Play, Mono-acting, Mimicry. Non-Stage Events Fine arts : Sketching, Spray Painting, 3-D drawing, Mehndi, Ad-making, Rangoli, Collage Making, Cartooning and Clay modelling. English Literary Events : Debate, Group Discussion, Elocution, Hard Talk, Jam, Reason It Out, Mock CAT, Volte-Face. Hindi Literary Events : Hindi Saras Antakshari, Srijanatmak Lekh, Anargal Pralap, Hindi Sahitya Prashonotri, Ashu Bhashan, Hindi Debate, Kavyanjali, Chhintakashi, Manthan (volteface), Mantrana(GD). ""Shauryotsava"" is the annual sports fest, which is organised in the month of February every year . It has all the characteristic traits of a sporting gala with the events ticking all the necessary boxes of required rivalries and competing colleagues in a all-in-one bumper package. Shauryotsava offers neither the biggest nor the grandest platform yet just the mere fact that it provides a spectacular adrenaline-filled three days of emotion-packed tussle spread across teams, sports and of course, colleges create an aura ample enough to warrant a special place in our heart.

Parakram" is the technical fest held each year in April.[2] All of the institute's departments organise events in their respective fields. Some of the fields are:

Placement

The institute has a placement cell[3] which is headed by Dr. Arun Kumar Tiwary, Professor, Mechanical Department, IET Lucknow. The Institute was granted an Industry Institute Partnership Cell in 1999 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.

Location

The institute is situated at Sitapur Road. From the Charbagh railway station a taxi can be hired or bus (Route No. 33, 31, 33C, 33B, 69) can be taken. The distance is around 15 km from the station and it takes around 30–45 minutes to reach the campus.

It is known as "Engineering College" in the city.

It was the main office of Uttar Pradesh Technical University until July 2017.

Alumni

IET Lucknow Alumni Association was officially registered on 25 May 2009. The association had its first General Body Meeting on 31 May 2009 at the Scientific Convention Center, KGMU, Lucknow. Two years after its inception, the Advisory committee held the first elections to the Executive Committee for the term of 2011-2013. The results of elections were announced on 29 April 2011 on the alumni website. The inaugural president was Shri Narinder Singh Dhanjal (1988 CS).[4] The institute organized "Convergence", an annual alumni meet, with the first event held to celebrate the silver jubilee of the first graduated batch.

Connectivity

Institute possesses a dedicated 2 Gbit/s leased line from National Informatics Centre, serving academic block, administrative block, computer center, all hostels and faculty residents counting to a total of 1500 LAN terminals. There is also WiFi connectivity in recently constructed hostels and computer labs.
