Institute of Continuing Professional Development

The Institute of Continuing Professional Development (ICPD, or CPD Institute) is the main institute concerned with continuing professional development (CPD) in the United Kingdom.[1] It provides CPD qualifications.[2]

The institute has defined CPD to be:

"a process by which a professional person maintains the quality and relevance of professional services throughout his/her life."[3]

The ICPD is part of the Continuing Professional Development Foundation, an educational non-profit charitable trust that has provided CPD since 1981, based in London, England.[4] The institute has corporate affiliates.[5] A Fellow of the institute can use the post-nominal FInstCPD. In 2008, a new "Member" grade was launched.[6] A Member of the institute can use the post-nominal MInstCPD.

The CPD Institute cooperates with the Institution of Analysts and Programmers[7] and the Chartered Institute of Building[8] on professional development. The institute has a newsletter.[9] It also runs a group on LinkedIn.[10]
