Innis & Gunn is a brewing company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, founded in 2003 by Master Brewer Dougal Gunn Sharp. [1]

Brewed in Glasgow at Wellpark (C&C Brewery) and in Inveralmond, Perth at Innis & Gunn Brewery, [2] Innis and Gunn is currently exported to over 28 countries. In 2009 it was the most popular British bottled beer sold in Canada,[3] and second most popular in Sweden.[4]

Since 2008, the business is family-owned, following a management buy-out from its original part-owners, William Grant and Sons.[4]

The beer was originally developed as a way of flavouring the barrels used by distiller William Grant for its ale cask reserve whisky.[5] The original plan was for the beer to be discarded after it had flavoured the barrel, but founder Dougal noted that the process had an agreeable effect on the beer, and thus ageing the beer in barrels became an end in itself.

Innis & Gunn was part of the nominated drinks list for the G8 Summit 2005 at Gleneagles Hotel. It was also an official corporate sponsor of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2012.[6] Innis & Gunn Original also featured at the 2013 Walt Disney World EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival at the inaugural Scotland booth.[7]

In late 2016, to help grow the company, Innis & Gunn attempted to raise £1m through crowdfunding, The target was surpassed in just 72 hours and went on to raise £2.5m. [8]

In 2017 Innis & Gunn signed a distribution deal in China for its flagship ale 'The Original' [9]
