India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) is a trust established by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. IBEF's primary objective is to promote and create international awareness of the Make In India label in markets overseas and to facilitate dissemination of knowledge of Indian products and services. Towards this objective, IBEF works closely with stakeholders across government and industry. It is funded and completely owned by the Government of India.[1]

History

India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) was established in 2003 by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India as an export promotion agency for promoting Brand India.

Mission and Undertakings

The primary objective of IBEF is to create positive perceptions of the Made in India label internationally to aid trade and commerce in the country.[2]

IBEF aims to ensure consistent and effective messaging on India's economic growth through brand building initiatives/campaigns. IBEF works as the branding and communication partner for India’s participation at various global trade exhibitions. IBEF also manages onsite branding, media advertisements, PR, Digital Marketing, publishing reports and knowledge kits, etc.[3]

Administration

IBEF works with a network of stakeholders both domestic and international to promote Brand India.

IBEF Trust is headed by the Commerce Secretary and has 14 other members representing the industry, trade, market, academia, media, advertising & publicity, and the government.[4]

Activities

IBEF undertakes brand building activities to promote Indian exports, businesses, and economy to the world.

IBEF’s website www.ibef.org is a resource center providing accurate and comprehensive information on the Indian economy and business trends to international policy-makers, investors, and media.

IBEF tracks government announcements, macroeconomic indicators, and business trends.

Under the Experience India Program, IBEF facilitates visits for foreign policy-makers, journalists, scholars, etc.[5]

IBEF Supports events and shows like Fancy Food Show (United States), CPhI Worldwide, Hannover Messe (Germany), Foodex (Japan), INNOPROM (Russia), JIMEX (Jordan).[6]

IBEF publishes information reports on its website reports on events organized and supported by IBEF and hosts multimedia content such as films. Business information reports on the website span a range of sectors besides the states, and also the export promotion councils.

IBEF also publishes a bimonthly business magazine, India Now Business and Economy and a range of thought-leadership studies on emerging areas such as India’s business potential, multinationals, entrepreneurial ecosystem, and contribution to the global business.

Brand India Pharma

Brand India Pharma is an initiative led by Pharmexcil (Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council) and IBEF (India Brand Equity Foundation) to highlight the value proposition of Indian pharma globally. Brand India Pharma was established for the promotion of Indian drugmakers on the factors of affordability, quality, and accessibility, especially for generic medicines.[7]

Brand India Plantations

Brand India Plantations (tea, coffee, and spices) is a campaign undertaken by India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF), which is a Trust established by the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. Brand India Plantations (www.teacoffeespiceofindia.com) has been set up as a hub for information and insights on exquisite varieties of teas, coffees, and spices from India and contemporary business trends driving these sectors forward.[8]

Brand India Engineering

Brand India Engineering is a campaign launched by Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. Brand India Engineering campaign aims at creating true brand value in international markets for Indian engineering products & services.[9]

IBEF brings out a bi-monthly business magazine, India Now Business and Economy and a range of thought leadership studies on emerging areas such as India’s business potential, multinationals, entrepreneurial ecosystem, and contribution to the global business.
