The Immaculate Conception Cathedral[1] (Chinese: 聖母無原罪主教座堂; pinyin: Shèngmǔwú Yuánzuì Zhǔjiào Zuòtáng) is a Catholic cathedral[2] in Datong District, Taipei, Taiwan.[3] The Latin Rite church serves as the see of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Taipei (Archidioecesis Taipehensis; 天主教台北總教區) that was created by Pope Pius XII with the Bull "Gravia illa Christi".

History

The original building was built in 1889[4] but was destroyed in a raid in the city. Between 1911 and 1914 a new church was built in Gothic style. In 1945 during World War II the church was bombed and was replaced by a simpler structure. In 1959 its reconstruction began, which ending in May 1961.

Activities

All Masses and otherreligious services in the cathedral are offered in Mandarin Chinese.

Transportation

The church is accessible within walking distance west of Shuanglian Station of Taipei Metro.
