Ignacio Poletti

Ignacio Poletti (born in Santa Fe on 28 April 1930) is an Argentine former basketball player who competed in the 1952 Summer Olympics.[1] He was after that, punished lifetime by the "Revolucion Libertadora" (1955 military putsch against Juan Domingo Perón) and he never was able to play basketball anywhere, anytime.

Argentina won in 1950 the first World Basketball Championship which was also played within that country. The first "Golden Generation" of Argentine basketball players (included Ignacio Poletti) made a powerful team, and were hardly supported by the Perón government, even against their beliefs (because they need to remain amateurs due to the rules at this time). None of them were affiliated to Peronist party, nor even pleased Peronist party in any way. However, when the military took the government, investigation commission nr. 49 found that those players (among others e.g. Delfo Cabrera) have been favoured by Perón. The basketball team had received some import permits, and because of that, the commission (hiding a strong sense of antiperonism) banned them to play basketball in any way.

The film Dead Time (Tiempo Muerto), which premiered in 2012, documented these facts with Ignacio Poletti appearance.
