Ice Lake Rebels is an American documentary television series concerning the daily lives of houseboat dwellers in Yellowknife Bay in Great Slave Lake as they make their living on the edge of a massive frozen lake. It aired on Animal Planet[1] for two seasons, 2014 to 2016.[2]

Plot

Ice Lake Rebels is a series concerning the daily lives of houseboat dwellers in Yellowknife Bay in Great Slave Lake as they make their living on the edge of a massive frozen lake.[3]

Main characters

  • Stephan Hervieux is a 40-year-old man living in Yellowknife Bay, part owner of the Kimberlite houseboat, husband to Allyce and father to Dora.[4]
  • Allyce Rattray is an eternally young woman living in Yellowknife Bay, part owner of the Kimberlite houseboat, wife to Stephan and mother to Dora.
  • Randy Sibbeston is a local native of Yellowknife Bay, a Canadian Ranger, naturalist, outdoorsman, survivalist, tracker, hunter, sculptor, scholar, friend.
  • "Pike" Mike Harrison is a wise denizen of the lake who sometime works for Ragnar at the Enodah Lodge.
  • Gary Vaillancourt started the houseboat movement on Yellowknife Bay with his cohort John Alexander.
  • Molly MacKinnon is Gary's daughter, princess of the houseboaters.
  • Henry, Bryan and Sheila go fishing

The show was produced by Critical Content of Los Angeles,[5] and aired on Animal Planet.[6] The producer was Kathryn Haydn Hays.[7]

Reception

Critics from The New York Times and the Boston Herald mainly commented on the difficult conditions depicted in the show, praising the characters' determination but not much else.[8]
