The IWRG Intercontinental Welterweight Championship (Campeonato Intercontinental Welter IWRG in Spanish) is a professional wrestling championship promoted by the Mexican wrestling promotion International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG) since 1998.[1] The official definition of the Welterweight weight class in Mexico is between 70 kg (150 lb) and 78 kg (172 lb), but the weight limits are not always strictly adhered to.[Note 1][3] Because Lucha Libre puts more emphasis on the lower weight classes, this division is considered more important than the normally more prestigious heavyweight division of the promotion.[4] Being a professional wrestling championship, it is not won legitimately: it is instead won via a scripted ending to a match or awarded to a wrestler because of a storyline.

The first Welterweight champion was Dr. Cerebro, winning the title on March 1, 1998 in a tournament final against Shiima Nobunaga.[1] Emperador Azteca is the champion, having defeated Argentinean wrestler Mosco to win the championship on June 18, 2017.[2] Emperdor Azteca is the 36th and then 19th wrestler to have held the Champions. Cerebro Negro being the person with most title reigns, a total of six. Cerebro Negro is also the individual to have the shortest reign, seven days while Dr. Cerebro has had the longest individual reign at 788 days.
