Hydesville Tower School is a coeducational independent school located in Walsall in the West Midlands, England. The school is owned and operated by Cognita, the largest independent schools provider in the UK.[1]
Hydesville Tower School, which overlooks Walsall Arboretum, was established in 1952. It comprises a nursery, prep school and senior school and is the only coeducational independent school in Walsall to offer secondary education. The School is consistently placed in the top three schools in the borough in the GCSE league tables[2] and the educational results of children in the nursery and prep school continually exceed national standards.
Most children attending the school start at Nursery level, (from the school term in which they turn three ), though pupils are accepted in subsequent years, subject to places becoming available.
A notable number of Hydesville's Year 5 pupils sit the 11 Plus examination and as such verbal and non verbal reasoning are taught. A high proportion of Year 6 pupils are offered a place at a selective secondary school of their choice.[3]
The school curriculum includes the core subjects of English, mathematics and science, French, German, Spanish, geography, history, art, business studies, ICT, religious studies, music and physical education. The PE department makes use of the sports facilities at the nearby Walsall Campus of the University of Wolverhampton. Elocution is part of the Prep School timetable and personal, social and health education (PSHE) is delivered to pupils in the senior school.
In addition there is a varied programme of extracurricular activities from forensic science classes to ballet, karate and coaching through Walsall Football Club.
A limited number of senior school scholarships are awarded to pupils joining Year 7. The School also offers a limited number of means tested bursaries.
All School Open Days are held throughout the year, usually in March and September and a number of school specific open events are held at various points throughout the year where prospective families are invited to visit, take a tour of the school and meet staff.
