J Hutchinson Pty Ltd, trading as Hutchinson Builders, commonly known as Hutchies, is one of Australia's largest privately owned construction companies.
Hutchinson Builders was founded in Brisbane, Queensland on 29 January 1912, with its first project being the construction of a new kitchen at Fort Lytton for the Queensland State Government.[1]
In 2016 the company employed 1,400 people and generated A$1.5 billion in revenue.[2]
Today they employ 1,700 across Australia and turned over A$2.6 billion for the 2017/18 financial year. Annually they construct 300 projects around the country with more than 35 individual teams located in 17 different locations.
IBISWorld's Top 500 Private Companies in Australia list ranked by revenue lists Hutchies at #7. They are the largest privately-owned builder in Australia. [3]
They work across all sectors and have offices throughout Australia, delivering projects ranging from $100K right through to $400M in value. In 2015, they were awarded the construction of Brisbane's tallest building, Skytower, located in the CBD. Skytower will be 90 storeys tall when complete and have 1,128 apartments.
They operate their own registered training school (GCSC) and have twice been awarded Employer of the Year by the Australian Training Awards (in 2017 and 2011).
In 2015 Hutchies committed to training and employing 350 Indigenous Australians in the construction industry by June 2019 through their Statim-Yaga program. As at September 2018 they have successfully placed 320 people into construction careers.
